Electrical Engineer

The Civil-Military Innovation Institute, Inc. (CMI2) is seeking a Electrical Engineer for its Design Innovation Group (DIG).  The position is full-time and reports directly to CMI2’s DIG Director.

CMI2 is a 501(c)(3) non-profit entity that supports United States Department of Defense (DoD) activities to build a civil-military innovation workforce optimized to advance national security technologies and to align the work of innovators from universities and non-traditional technology companies with the activities of the DoD and public safety communities.

Essential Position Functions:       

The Electrical Engineer will be part of the DIG team of forward thinkers, innovators, designers and engineers working to find solutions to the growing needs of the DoD and public safety communities we serve.

The primary responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • System Design and Development: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to conceptualize, design, and develop electrical and electromechanical systems, products, and components. Conduct feasibility studies, research, and prototyping to validate design concepts.
  • Component Selection and Integration: Specify and select electrical and electromechanical components, such cables/wiring harnesses, motors, sensors, actuators, control systems, and others based on project requirements. Integrate components into cohesive systems, ensuring compatibility and functionality.
  • Testing and Validation: Develop test plans and procedures to validate the performance, reliability, and safety of electromechanical systems. Analyze test data and make necessary design modifications to meet specifications.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Create detailed technical documentation, including engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and reports. Maintain accurate records of design changes and project progress.
  • Quality Assurance and Compliance: Ensure that electrical and electromechanical systems comply with industry standards, regulations, and safety requirements. Implement quality control processes and perform regular inspections.
  • Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Identify and resolve electrical and electromechanical system issues through troubleshooting and diagnostic techniques. Develop preventive maintenance plans to ensure long-term reliability.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and software engineers, to achieve project goals. Communicate project status, challenges, and solutions effectively to team members and stakeholders.

Desired Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS (Bachelors of Science) in Electrical Engineering Degree (minimum)/MS (Masters of Science) in Engineering Degree is preferable
  • Must have familiarity with electrical and wiring diagram software to develop wiring diagrams, cable diagrams . etc of new components, assemblies and concepts.
  • Must have familiarity and baseline capabilities with software engineering/coding software
  • Must have a solid understanding of electro-mechanical systems and how they operate, how to maintain and how to optimize
  • Technical writing capabilities
  • Must have a solid understanding of system and sub-system experimentation and testing
  • Be proficient in Microsoft outlook, word, power point and excel.
  • Ability to acquire a security clearance

Travel Requirement:  20% (estimated)
