Committed to Clay

Feb. 13, 2024

It’s true what they say: good news travels fast.

Drumroll, please…

As of July 1, 2024, the CMI2 Adaptive Experimentation Facility (AEF) will relocate to a larger facility in Clay County!

The move follows an increased customer demand signal for a larger footprint and additional specialized facility capabilities as we continue our commitment to investing in Clay County.

About AEF 2.0

A one-of-a-kind experimentation facility, the AEF benefits Soldiers and individuals developing defense and military technologies and offers hands-on, real-world training experiences for first responders.

The abundant response to participation in experimentation and training opportunities we have seen at the AEF thus far, and looking ahead to the next fiscal year, requires us to focus on expanding the facility infrastructure and offerings.

We are ready.

Timeline

We will continue to operate at the current location over the coming months, hosting previously scheduled events for the U.S. Department of Defense customers and units plus iterations for our Wilderness Medicine recertification course.

In conjunction with these activities, we will begin constructing our new facility as we decommission the existing property by July 2024.

Questions

Below are frequently asked questions and answers, including additional information about this fantastic opportunity.

If you have any specific questions, please email us at info@cmi2.org or submit your question via our General Information form, and we will reply and ensure your questions are answered.

  • Why is the AEF relocating? The commitment to build a premier training and experimentation destination in Clay County required that CMI2 focus on expanding the facility infrastructure by seeking a contiguous geographic property that can be developed within the context of the existing natural landscape. We were fortunate to find an excellent location for our permanent facilities to be utilized for training and experimentation.
  • Where will the new site be located? The new site location is in the Lizemores community, along West Virginia Route 16, approximately 10 miles (16 km) southwest of the town of Clay. Driving accessibility from Charleston is about one hour to Lizemores and 40 minutes from Summersville.  In relation to the existing facility, instead of making the left at the carwash in Bickmore, you continue on the main road for approximately 7 miles and reach the new location.
  • Why is the site staying in Clay County?  As the investment in Clay County grows, so does the CMI2 commitment to developing the economy throughout the area. From local vendors to staffing, we remain steadfast in our commitment to enable economic development throughout Clay County.
  • Why is CMI2 leaving the original site? Interest from U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), other Federal agencies, state agencies, and commercial customers has necessitated a move to a site with access to additional lands for experimentation and training, as well as easier access.

Final Thoughts

As our investment in Clay County grows, so will our commitment to developing the economy throughout the area. From local vendors to staffing, we remain steadfast in our commitment to enable economic development throughout the county. We are committed to Clay County and look forward to sharing all the good news about this opportunity on this blog.
