MINER

MINER™

The MINER — Mobile Immediate-Need Engineering Resource — is a mobile makerspace unit created by the U.S. Combat Capabilities Command (DEVCOM) Army Research Laboratory (ARL) in collaboration with the Civil-Military Innovation Institute (CMI2), to support Soldier-driven, tactical innovation.

The MINER facilities are field-constructed DIRT labs equipped with 3-D printers, CAD stations, laser cutters, CNC mills, and a variety of other metal forming, electronic development, and other workshop tools.

Designed to create a progression for frontline concepts to become prototyped solutions, the MINER allows bottom-up concepts to transition from the abstract to the actual.

A MINER was deployed to Europe in FY23. In August 2024, a permanent MINER was installed for field use with the Montana Army National Guard, the first of its kind for a National Guard installation.
