We are pleased to announce the 2026 Civil-Military Innovation Institute (CMI2) Adaptive Experimentation Facility (AEF) at Fort Andrew Ignite Summer Internship program. The CMI2 Ignite program offers full-time opportunities in Clay County starting late May through early August.

At CMI2, we are dedicated to empowering the next generation of innovators through our Ignite internship program. Each summer, CMI2 interns play a pivotal role in supporting our nation’s warfighters by contributing to developing the unique military training and experimentation facility in Lizemores.

As an Ignite intern, you can work closely with our experienced on-site staff, gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic environment. You will collaborate on innovative projects, helping to shape the future of military training and support our mission in meaningful ways. The CMI2 internship is a chance to make a real impact while building valuable skills for your future career.

The CMI2 Ignite opportunity is available for students from Clay County, West Virginia. Interested applicants from the surrounding areas may apply, but preference is given to residents of Clay County.

About the CMI2 AEF Summer Internship Program

For the summer of 2026, interns will support the AEF through the CMI2 Ignite Program. As part of their summer employment experience, interns will work across multiple AEF divisions, contributing to key initiatives, operational activities, and program development efforts.

Available Internship Roles

  • Site Specialist – In Training: Supports labor-focused projects, including construction activities, infrastructure improvements, and trail development across the site.
  • STEM Outreach & Community Engagement – In Training: Assists with the ILLUME program by supporting STEM programming, facilitating community engagement initiatives, and providing participant coordination and support.
  • AEF Site Makerspace Operator – In Training: Supports makerspace operations through equipment oversight, participant assistance, and general program facilitation.

Throughout the internship, participants will engage in activities aligned with AEF’s core mission areas:

  • Experimentation: Assisting with special events, demonstrations, and domestic operational activities.
  • Technology Integration: Supporting course and site development, prototyping efforts, and red teaming initiatives.
  • Community Engagement: Contributing to partnership development, community outreach, and public engagement activities.

In addition, interns will provide operational support across Fort Andrew while gaining exposure to leadership development, cross-division collaboration, and mission-driven programming.

Who Should Apply

Applicants for all positions should be self-starters, aged 16-18, currently enrolled in high school, a recent high school graduate, or possess a GED. Individuals with problem-solving skills and the ability to succeed in a fast-paced, dynamic environment are encouraged to apply.
