The Civil-Military Innovation Institute (CMI2) Ignite summer internship offers full-time opportunities in Clay County, West Virginia, from the end of the school year through early August. Ignite interns work closely with our experienced on-site staff at our Adaptive Experimentation Facility at Fort Andrew, gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic environment.
The Ignite program is powered by the CMI2 innovation-driven education and workforce training program known as ILLUME (Innovating, Learning, Leading, Uniting, Making, Experimenting). Built on an experiential learning model, CMI2 Ignite interns can explore career pathways in Carpentry, Welding, Electrical, and Health Sciences, all grounded in a strong foundation of STEM principles. Each discipline emphasizes applied learning, bridging the gap between classroom instruction and on-the-job performance.
Established in 2023, the CMI2 Ignite summer internship program provides high school and undergraduate college-aged students with hands-on learning in three main areas: Skilled Trades (a component of Operational Support), Experimentation (including special event and domestic operations support), and Technology Integration (which focuses on course and site development as well as red teaming support). Additionally, interns participate in Community Involvement by implementing strategic partnerships, conducting community outreach, and supporting engagement initiatives across all division components at Fort Andrew.
Ideal candidates for the Ignite internship program are motivated self-starters between the ages of 16 and 18 who are currently enrolled in high school, recent high school graduates, or individuals who have earned a high school equivalency diploma or a GED. Candidates who excel in problem-solving and thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments will be best suited for this opportunity.
