Background:
The Civil-Military Innovation Institute, Inc. (CMI2) is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer for its newly created Design Innovation Group (DIG). This newly created full-time role reports directly to CMI2’s DIG Director. Located in Morgantown, WV, CMI2 is a growing defense and security government contractor developing technology for the warrior in the battlefield. Our clients are the DoD (all divisions), National Guard units and public safety organizations.
The Senior Electrical Engineer collaborates and communicates with a variety of stakeholders. We’re looking for a forward thinker who will deliver on a mix of strategic and hands-on initiatives alongside our clients, affiliated companies and internal team members.
Essential Position Functions:
- System Design and Development: Interface with customer and multi-disciplinary CMI2 engineers to help the customer create “need statements” towards design and development of electrical and electromechanical systems, products, and components. Prepare for and participate in design reviews.
- Component Selection and Integration: Specify and select electrical and electromechanical components, such as cables/wiring harnesses, motors, sensors, actuators, control systems, and other components based on project requirements.
- Product development: Support and manage the development, fabrication, procurement and assembly of protype systems and sub-systems.
- Testing and Validation: In collaboration with project systems engineer, develop test plans and procedures to validate the performance, reliability, and safety requirements of electromechanical systems. Testing may involve both laboratory testing (e.g. functional testing, EMC testing, etc.) and open-air range testing of prototype systems.
- Documentation and Reporting: Create detailed technical documentation, including engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, cable drawings, schematics, and reports.
- Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Identify and resolve electrical and electromechanical system issues. Develop preventive maintenance plans and manuals to ensure long-term reliability.
Key Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum BS (Bachelors of Science) in Electrical Engineering.
- Seven or more years’ experience working in DoD contracting and/or supply chain, aerospace or industrial technology. Ex-military experience is a bonus.
- Must have working knowledge and experience with software to develop wiring diagrams and cable drawings of new and existing components, assemblies and concepts.
- Must have familiarity and baseline capabilities with software engineering/coding software.
- Must have a solid understanding of electro-mechanical systems and how they operate, how to maintain and optimize their implementation.
- Proven technical writing capabilities.
- Must have a solid understanding of system and sub-system experimentation and testing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft outlook, word, power point and excel.
- Current or ability to acquire a security clearance.
- For non-local candidates, this hybrid position requires ultimate relocation to the Morgantown, WV areas (not far from Pittsburgh, PA!). Travel is estimated at 20%.
