As Week 8 wraps, the intern team has been busy at the CMI2 Adaptive Experimentation Facility (AEF) at Fort Andrew, doing things such as organizing, building, painting, and cleaning up. Week 8 found everyone breaking off into dedicated tasks for their summer assignments, be it site specialist, makerspace, or communications, where they can put their skills into action.
- Most of the AEF summer intern team is working as a Site Specialist In Training, finalizing the buildout of the base camp structure. They are hands-on as they prepare the building by pressure washing for its first layer of paint, plumbing, and the buildout of each room.
- The four Makerspace Operators – In Training are working to create a dedicated open space to hold their 3D printers and drones, used to support essential equipment for both the AEF and military experimentation operations. Our site specialist is currently building and painting signs for the command center to direct traffic when traveling to the upper area of the AEF.
- The five Communications Coordinators – In Training are busy capturing every moment in video and photography of the summer work and finalizing the AEF intern spotlights for CMI2’s social media “Summer Spotlight” series. The team also supports community and state leader visits to the site.
Community Outreach
While the work continues at Fort Andrew in Lizemores, our Makerspace interns travel weekly to Clay County High School to support STEM activities, including drone operations, for local summer school children. Through this effort, the children learn basic operations skills and how to fly a drone, and they later compete in a friendly but competitive race.
