Description
The Civil-Military Innovation Institute, Inc. (CMI2) is seeking a Tactical Communications and Information Technology Architect Technician for its Adaptive Experimentation Force (AEForce). The AEForce delivers technology and tactical red-teaming capabilities for CMI2’s Adaptive Experimentation Facility at Fort Andrew in Clay County, West Virginia. AEForce’s mission is to provide America’s fighting forces and private sector technology enablers with an innovative, immersive, and adaptive experimentation environment IOT assess their abilities and emerging technology against persistent, state-level, threats. This full-time position reports directly to CMI2’s Adaptive Threat Manager.
CMI2 is a 501(c)(3) non-profit entity that supports United States Department of Defense (DoD) activities to build a civil-military innovation workforce optimized to advance national security technologies and to align the work of innovators from universities and non-traditional technology companies with the activities of the DoD and public safety communities.
Essential Position Functions
- Design and Develop Tactical Communication Systems:
- Design robust tactical communication architectures, including satellite, radio, and secure wireless networks.
- Create detailed communication plans that ensure network interoperability across different platforms.
- Requirements Gathering:
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Evaluate and analyze the impact of proposed solutions on existing systems.
- System Integration and Testing:
- Integrate communication systems with existing infrastructure.
- Conduct tests to verify system performance, reliability, and security in a variety of operational settings.
- Technology Evaluation:
- Evaluate emerging communication technologies and determine their applicability to tactical scenarios.
- Assess new hardware and software to enhance the efficiency and security of communications.
- Infrastructure Management:
- Design scalable IT infrastructure to support business applications and services.
- Plan and oversee the deployment of infrastructure components, including network, servers, storage, and cloud services.
- Stakeholder Communication:
- Communicate complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
- Provide presentations, progress updates, and architecture proposals to executive management.
- Project Management:
- Manage communication projects from conception through to deployment.
- Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure project milestones and deliverables are met on time.
- Support and Troubleshooting:
- Provide expert-level support for deployed communication systems during exercises and operations.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and implement solutions in high-pressure environments.
- Documentation and Training:
- Develop documentation for communication systems, including user guides and network diagrams.
- Train field personnel on the setup, maintenance, and use of communication equipment.
- Security and Compliance:
- Ensure that all communications systems are secure and meet regulatory and security compliance standards.
- Implement encryption protocols and security measures for secure information exchange.
Desired Minimum Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field. Advanced degrees or relevant certifications are a plus.
- Certificate Programs in Telecommunications or RF Engineering
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in communication systems design (preferably in a military, public safety, or tactical environment).
- Skills and Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of RF communication, satellite systems, VOIP, and secure data links.
- Experience with tactical radios, waveforms, IP networking, and network protocols.
- Proficiency in network design software and simulation tools.
- Understanding of cybersecurity practices related to communication systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and operational environments.
- Certifications and credentials (Preferred):
- CCNP or equivalent, CompTIA Security+ or CISSP, CWNA, vendor specific certifications, PMP, etc.
- Military communication system certifications (e.g., Joint Tactical Networking Center certifications).
- Other Requirements:
- Possess an active security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
- Willingness to travel to field locations.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently or in a team environment.
