Background:
The Civil-Military Innovation Institute, Inc. (CMI2) is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer for its newly created Design Innovation Group (DIG). This newly created full-time role reports directly to CMI2’s DIG Director. Located in Morgantown, WV, CMI2 is a growing defense and security government contractor developing technology for the warrior in the battlefield. Our clients are the DoD (all divisions), National Guard units and public safety organizations.
The Systems Engineer collaborates and communicates with a variety of stakeholders. We’re looking for a forward thinker who will deliver on a mix of strategic and hands-on initiatives alongside our clients, affiliated companies and internal team members.
Essential Position Functions:
- Be capable of implementing a systems engineering process for product development. Taking a customer’s Need Statement, developing Technical Requirements, managing the concept design effort, managing a preliminary design review, managing the detail design effort, managing the critical design review, providing overview of the prototype development, manage testing of the prototype, and managing the documentation from beginning to end of protype development.
- Be capable of taking a solution concept and breaking it down into subsystems.
- Be capable of managing sub-system interface control documents and system-to-world interface control documents.
- Engage end-users for continuous guidance and feedback throughout the requirements definition, development and experimentation stages
- Be able to work with a diverse group of skill sets and personalities to align expectations on what will be accomplished while fostering a motivating and positive work environment. Teams consist of Managers, Engineers, Designers, Fabricators, Assemblers and Mechanics.
- Monitoring all software, hardware, equipment and systems continuously and set up protocols for feedback
- Recognize innovation opportunities and evolve design from concept to successful application.
- Must have a “can do” attitude and the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Review all mechanical, electrical and software systems for high quality, accuracy, detail and precision prior to release
- Develop, check and revise all bill of materials for accuracy from all designers and engineers.
- Develop system and sub-system test/experimentation plans and manage testing/experimentation
- Be able to properly collect and reduce data from testing/experimentation
- Be able to take test/experimentation data and use it to improve design of the system and sub-systems
- Work with sub-system supplier companies to assure highest quality and successful performance of parts/components/systems.
- Assist in final assembly and review parts for accuracy.
- Work with stakeholders on flow charts for accurate timelines, deliverables and milestones to ensure project completion is communicated, agreed upon, and executed effectively balancing cost, performance and schedule.
- Schedule, manage, coordinate, and lead Design Reviews internally and with customers and stakeholders.
Key Qualifications and Experience:
- BS (Bachelors of Science) in Engineering Degree (minimum)/ MS (Masters of Science) in Engineering Degree is preferable
- Seven or more years’ working in industry. Working as a DoD contractor is a bonus. Ex-military is a bonus.
- Familiarity with SolidWorks CAD software to develop 3D drawings of new components, assemblies, and concepts
- Must have knowledge and experience with the systems engineering process of product development.
- Must have a solid understanding of electro-mechanical systems and how they operate, how to maintain and how to optimize their performance
- Technical writing capabilities
- Must have a solid understanding of system and sub-system experimentation and testing
- Be proficient in Microsoft outlook, word, power point and excel.
- Current clearance or ability to acquire a security clearance.
- For non-local candidates, this hybrid position requires ultimate relocation to the Morgantown, WV areas (not far from Pittsburgh, PA!). Travel is estimated at 20%.
