2024 AEF Summer Internship – Week Two Progress

June 7, 2024

Progress

Our 2024 summer intern team continued making progress on CMI2’s new Adaptive Experimentation Facility (AEF) at Fort Andrew in  Lizemores, WV. This week, they focused on decommissioning the original site, off Leatherwood Road, an essential step meeting the project deadline of early July.

Throughout the week, the interns were broken up into three teams. The first two teams managed the cleaning, dismantling, and loading of the equipment and buildings for transportation to the base camp facility in Lizemores, while the third team worked to set up the facility and prepare to offload the incoming materials.

Supporting the Army’s future technology — The AEF interns enjoyed presentations from the CMI2 Accelerating Future Operational Requirements, Capabilities, and Experimentation (FORCE) program staff as part of the weekly Friday Forum event. This program focuses on accelerating emerging technologies from academia and small businesses to address the operational needs of the warfighter.

Program Manager Paul Coffy echoed the remarks from the first session, reminding the group of the impact on defense innovation they make as they constructed the AEF.

The FORCE program, managed by CMI2 in partnership with DEVCOM ARL , focuses on accelerating emerging technologies from academia and small businesses to address emerging operational needs rapidly.

Other team members included Project Portfolio Manager Shawn Pratt, Advising Engineer Alex Panger, Deputy Accelerating Force Project Manager and Facility Security Officer Carl Oldenburg, and Program Manager Paul Coffy.
