Student capstone effort supports Soldier-driven innovation
A unique project initiative led by the Civil-Military Innovation Institute (CMI2), in collaboration with the University of Florida and the U.S. Army, was prominently showcased in the May 14 edition of the UF Innovate’s “Tech Tuesday.”
Tech Tuesday is a dedicated video segment program for Gainesville, FL-based TV20. In the most recent edition, Dr. Matthew Traum from the University of Florida’s Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering is interviewed regarding his students’ collaboration with CMI2 at Fort Stewart to support the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Army Research Laboratory’s (ARL) Catalyst-Pathfinder program.
Fort Stewart and the Marne Innovation Center’s efforts to coordinate Soldier-engagement and collaboration are led by Randy Emert, CMI2’s Design, Innovation, Research, and Technology (DIRT) Lab Manager and Engineer embedded with the 3rd Infantry Division.
”The student-Soldier collaboration with Dr. Traum and led by Randy embodies our overall program goal to foster frontline or bottom-up, Soldier-driven innovation,” Said James “Cody” Clevenger, CMI2 Pathfinder Program Manager. “Our efforts are truly accelerating Army innovation in real-time.”
UF students in Dr. Traum’s class have been working to develop quick camouflage for military vehicles in the field as part of a capstone project.
